Here is some more information about the World Beer Festival...
Columbia, SC - City of Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin today announced his support of the 2011 World Beer Festival Columbia (WBF) to be held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on January 22, 2011. The announcement was held at The Flying Saucer located in Columbia, SC.
I welcome the World Beer Festival back to Columbia and wish them much success at the 2011 Festival. The festival brings an estimated $1.5 million in revenue to the city and partners with local non-profits the River Alliance and Columbia Opportunity Resource (COR), who receive a portion of the proceeds from the event, said Mayor Steve Benjamin.
The World Beer Festival, presented by All About Beer Magazine, is committed to educating the public about the true diversity in beer varieties. Over 100 breweries will be present featuring a variety of beer styles to sample, including IPAs, pales ales, witbiers, kölsch, pilsners, ciders, stouts and many more. The festival challenges attendees to explore the beer varieties and find out what beer style suites their taste.
When we selected Columbia three years ago as our new World Beer Festival city, we based the decision on the fact that Columbia has all the ingredients of a growing beer culture that is about to take off. Were excited to host the third World Beer Festival there in January and look forward to celebrating the citys combination of curious beer drinkers, expanding beer selections and creative brewers and distributors, said Daniel Bradford, Producer, World Beer Festivals, Publisher, All About Beer Magazine.
Tickets for the festival are now on sale. The festival offers two four-hour sessions. The first session will be from noon to 4 p.m., and the second session will be from 6 to 10 pm. Standard admission to a single session is $40, which includes beer samples, music by local bands, educational sessions by industry experts and a festival tasting glass. Tickets can be purchased online at www.allaboutbeer.com.
Volunteers are integral to the success of the World Beer Festival each year and charity partners, the River Alliance and COR, help recruit and manage the volunteer staff. Volunteers are fashioned with a WBF t-shirt and are treated to a special volunteer-only event after the festival that includes sampling of beers from the festival, tasty food and a raffle for fun beer related prizes. Volunteer recruitment is currently underway and if you are interested, please visit http://worldbeerfestcolumbia2011.eventbrite.com.
The World Beer Festival is a unique opportunity to get connected into one of Columbias signature events, meet like-minded community volunteers and beer aficionados and support two great causes, COR and the River Alliance. COR is proud to serve again as volunteer liaison and work with All About Beer Magazine to produce a dynamic event. said Katherine Swartz, Executive Director, COR.
The mission of the World Beer Festival is to educate the public in beer appreciation and beer quality, and to build the local beer community. Every aspect of the World Beer Festival focuses on promoting the positive attributes of the growing beer culture.
All About Beer Magazine publishes the best of beer six times a year with two additional bonus issues each year. Subjects range from beer history and culture to beer travel and entertaining as well as beer brewing and storing. For more information, please visit www.allaboutbeer.com.
