Early Tuesday morning the special sexual assault unit of the Central District CMPD was called to Mercy Hospital to respond to a report of a girl being sexually assaulted along the light rail line running between 5th St and Trade St. The story was first reported on Crime in Charlotte.
The victim was reportedly assaulted between 5th St and Trade St. while walking along the light rail line between 2am and 2:30am. If you have any information about this, please call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
This blog is not to comment directly on this case but to list out some safety tips for the nightlife to live by...
1. Never walk alone in Uptown. Make sure to walk in a group whether you are a girl or a guy.
2. Always park in the parking decks with security and good lighting. Do not park on a dark side street just to save some cash. That is risky and cheap.
3. Speaking from a bit of experience, never bar hop around with nothing but drunk friends. Always have someone in the group that is sober. Otherwise, I promise you someone will say something stupid to a stranger and a fight will break out.
4. Never whip our your wallet full of cash. Someone is always watching and you might end up being an easy target.
5. Actually, carrying cash around at all is a pretty bad idea. Plastic is safe and insured!
6. This has been reported a million times but people still dont get the picture. Do not accept drinks from strangers. They are buying you a drink for a reason and you probably wont like the reason.
7. If you work at a bar/restaurant, never walk to your car without having another employee walk with you.
8. Always be 100% aware of your surroundings. If you are not paying attention you are destined to find yourself in some shenanigans.
9. Nothing good happens after the bars close. Dont hang around the steets late. It is asking for trouble.
10. Watch out for the bat shit crazy people. They are every where! Like ninjas they jump out from no where!
That is about all for now. If you can think of any more good rules, post them in the comments.
